Letter to the Keene Sentinel Editor

Candidate Ovide Lamontagne for US Senate
             -by George Fellendorf

On October 3, 2009 Attorney Ovide Lamontagne, former Chairman of the N H State Board of Education (1993-1996), spoke to a group of interested citizens in Keene and shared his thoughts about running for the U.S. Senate position now held by Judd Gregg. He opened his remarks to a group of about 30 Keene area citizens by describing the upcoming election in 2010 as "the most important election in the US during our lifetime". It was a thought-provoking prediction to be sure.

Included in his rationale for this prediction were the following observations and promises:

* Stimulus packages" as now being practiced in Washington are giveaways and should be discontinued immediately.

* Congress should be directing its attention to a balanced national budget and trimming expenses to match potential income.

* Term limits should be established by law; probably at two terms, so that members of Congress must step down and make room for their replacement.

* Presidents must be given a line item veto enabling them to veto pork barrel spending regardless of who proposes it and where it appears in proposed legislation.

* The nation's leaders must renew President Kennedy's wise advice to our nation's youth, " Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country".

* Health care and health services must be based upon local people and agencies and should not be dictated by Washington.

* We must encourage adoption rather than abortion, and promote well-regulated foster care for children without a functional traditional family.

Mr. Lamontagne's remarks were welcomed by applause and expressions of support should he decide to seek the open seat in the US Senate next year. Those who missed this presentation at Bentley Commons on October 3 missed a great opportunity to personally meet and ask questions of a man of proven character who is offering to serve all of the citizens of New Hampshire in 2010.
