Obama shows inability to tell the truth To the editor: As I've noted in previous letters, our president regularly exhibits the characteristics of a pathological liar. He responds to questions or proposals, not with the truth, but with what his pollsters have told him his audience wants to hear. Once you wrap your brain around this concept, the events of the past few days take on a certain bizarre humor. As examples, he presents a “budget” (borrowing 40%) which bears little resemblance to a real budget, he's organizing a talk fest (turning on his hearing aid) to “hear” the Republicans who've been screaming at him, and he sends his security bozo (Brennan) out to excuse the fiasco over the Xmas day bomber, somehow blaming the Republicans. Is this last a hint that pathological lying is a spreading pandemic in the White House? So what are we to make of these recent fairy tales? The most obvious conclusion is that the Spendocrats have not changed their spots. Rather, they want to spend while pretending to negotiate, they want universal health CONTROL while pretending to be open to Republican ideas, and they want to shift the blame for the Christmas day fiasco. Do these not describe the pathology of a disease, lying? Understanding this pathology allows some predictions for the future. We can expect continued obfuscation at the health “control” summit, we can watch the funny games to be played with the Republicans as “Budgeting by Bama” rolls along, and we can expect the president to provide some imaginative wallpaper to cover his move of the terrorist trials out of NYC. All this will be great theater, but a few questions remain. Has the president chosen the role of the straight man or the buffoon? And are Republicans asking the same question?
